Pride Month: Showing Up, Celebrating the Complicated, and Finding Community

June is Pride Month, a time of celebration, reflection, visibility, and community. It's a month filled with colour, joy, protest, history, and hope. But perhaps more than anything, Pride is a reminder of the power of showing up.

At Complicated Co, we spend a lot of time talking about complexity. We talk about the messy parts of life, the contradictions that make us human, and the reality that progress. Whether personal, professional, or societal, is rarely straightforward. Pride Month feels particularly aligned with that philosophy because it reminds us that identity, belonging, and community are rarely simple stories.

They are complicated stories. And they deserve to be celebrated.

As a sustainable clothing brand in the UK, we also believe that how we make our clothes is part of how we show up. Choosing ethical fashion means choosing to care about the people who make your clothes, the planet they're made on, and the values they represent. Pride and ethics have always gone hand in hand.

A Day at Soho Farmhouse

Recently, we had the opportunity to attend Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire as part of our Pride Month reflections and celebrations.

The setting itself offered a powerful reminder of the value of gathering together. Away from the noise and pace of everyday life, there was space for conversations that felt genuine, thoughtful, and inspiring.

What stood out most wasn't the location, it was the people.

Throughout the day, we met individuals from different backgrounds, industries, experiences, and perspectives. People who brought energy, insight, creativity, and openness into every conversation. Others focused on identity, inclusion, creativity, and community. Many explored the challenges people continue to face navigating workplaces, industries, and social spaces while remaining authentic to themselves.

What connected every interaction was a shared understanding that progress happens through people. Through relationships. Through listening. Through showing up.

Why Community Matters More Than Ever

Community has always been at the heart of Pride.

Before Pride was a celebration, it was a movement. Before it became a global event, it was people supporting one another, creating safe spaces, and demanding visibility. That spirit remains as important today as it has ever been.

In a world that often feels increasingly divided, community offers something powerful: connection. Connection creates understanding. Understanding creates empathy. Empathy creates change.

Whether in our workplaces, our friendships, our industries, or our wider society, the communities we build shape the experiences we have and the futures we create.
