Ethics & Sustainability

Our products & materials

Not every product we make is the same — and we think that honesty matters.

Some Complicated Co. pieces are:

  • made with organic cotton
  • vegan-friendly
  • created using recycled materials
  • finished using lower-impact processes

Rather than making blanket claims, we share product-level details so you can make informed choices.

You’ll find specific material and certification information on individual product pages where relevant.

Certifications & standards we work with

Where possible, our products and suppliers align with recognised ethical and material standards, including:

AMORFI Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI)

A management framework used by manufacturers to improve ethical sourcing within supply chains.
It focuses on fair working conditions, health and safety, and responsible labour practices.

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard)

Applies to textiles made with organic fibres.
GOTS certification covers the full supply chain, from raw materials through to manufacturing, with strict environmental and social criteria.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 / Confidence in Textiles

Independent testing that ensures textiles are free from harmful substances and safe for human health.
If you see this referenced, it means the fabric has been tested — not just the final garment.

Organic Content Standard (OCS 100)

Verifies that a product contains 95% or more certified organic material.
This focuses on material integrity rather than the entire production process.

EVE VEGAN® Certification

Confirms that a product:

  • contains no ingredients of animal origin
  • has not been tested on animals

Only some of our products carry this certification, and they will be clearly labelled as such.

Post-Consumer Recycled Polyester

Where used, this material is made from recycled consumer waste (such as plastic bottles), helping reduce landfill and reliance on virgin materials.

Enzyme Wash

A lower-impact finishing process that reduces the need for harsh chemicals while achieving softness and wearability.

Fair Wear principles

Fair Wear promotes safe, dignified and fairly paid employment throughout the garment supply chain, with a strong focus on human rights and transparency.

Where our products are made

Our garments are currently manufactured in:

  • Bangladesh
  • China

We work with established production partners and prioritise ethical frameworks, material testing, and responsible processes over country-based assumptions.

We continue to review suppliers and standards as the brand grows.

A note on transparency

We won’t claim every product meets every certification — because that wouldn’t be true.

Instead, we commit to:

  • clear product-level information
  • ongoing improvement
  • honest communication about where we are now, not just where we’d like to be

In short

We’re building Complicated Co. thoughtfully — one decision at a time.

Better materials where possible.
Responsible processes where available.
And openness, always.

Life’s complicated. You’re doing fine.
